Abi Clarke
In the past
i.e. in the early 2020s comedians were expected to perform for years in the UK
before being invited to a TV panel and then selling out arena shows. However,
it's not so straightforward at the moment. Comedy is a form of art that can
continue to be performed front of a live crowd, but we'll not be having arena
tours anytime in the near future. However one Bristol comedian has a huge
following via social media lockdown. The pursuit of fame on the internet isn't
something that Abi Clarke set out to achieve. The 24-year-old, living in Hen
bury with her parents, first started making online videos "to build a
following of like-minded people who would appreciate my stand-up comedy.
"I was performing regularly in Devon to men older than 50 who weren't so
keen on my Love Island Sims and Twilight references, so I decided to get online
and find other young women who love my stand-up routine." Abi, who lives
in Henbury, with her parents, has continued to upload her videos to Instagram,
Twitter, and Tik Tok. Her inspiration comes from a variety of sources,
including conversations with strangers, the chatroom, and also writing notes on
her smartphone.
