Moss, born 13 February 1977, is a former American football player. He was a
player in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 years with the Minnesota
Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and the San
Francisco 49ers. He is widely acknowledged as Jerry Rice's greatest wide
receiver. He holds the NFL single season record for touchdown receptions of 23
in 2007 the NFL rookie single-season touchdown reception records (17 in 1998)
and is second on the NFL's all-time regular-season touchdown receptions with
156. Moss was famous for his skills in securing contested catches and the word
"mossed" is now part of football vernacular. After football, he
started working with ESPN as an analyst in the studio for their Sunday NFL
Countdown and Monday Night Countdown programs. Moss was born at Rand, West
Virginia. Moss was a student at DuPont High School. This was one of two schools
that later amalgamated to form Riverside High School. He excelled in
basketball, football and baseball. Randy was also a part of the school's debate
team. Moss was the captain of the DuPont Panthers football team to two
consecutive state championships in 1992, 1993. Moss was a renowned wide
receiver. He also played free safety and returned punts. In 1994, he was
honoured with the Kennedy Award as the West Virginia Football Player of the
Year. Parade magazine named him to their All-American high-school football team
in 1995, and in 2009 his name was named one of the 50 most outstanding football
players from high schools ever.
